The Craft & Art of Writing

The Northeast Texas Writers’ Organization (NETWO) is sponsoring a writing course to be given in the Gladewater Public Library. The course will be conducted from 1 to 3 p.m. over a period of five consecutive Saturdays, beginning on January 15.

The purpose of the course, entitled “The Craft and Art of Writing,” is to illuminate the key elements in creating a novel, short story, essay or article for publication. The focus is on fiction, but it will cover non-fiction as well.

The course will include specific details on language, structure, format, style, plotting, character development, dialogue, and scene creation, plus finding an agent or publisher, and manuscript preparation.

The instructor will be Jory Sherman, author of more than 300 novels, several books of poetry, dozens of essays, as well as hundreds of short stories and articles. He has been awarded the Spur Award, nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in Literature, inducted into the Writers’ Hall of Fame, and honored by many writing organizations. He has taught creative writing courses in California, Missouri and Texas. Sherman has been a syndicated columnist, a magazine editor, a literary consultant, a book producer for major publishing houses and a book doctor.

Tuition is $15 for individual sessions or $50 for the entire course, when paid in advance. Additional information can be obtained by calling Ted Rankin at 903-844-0289.

The class is limited to twenty. Registration forms can be obtained by e-mailing jimcallan@winnsboro.com , or by visiting www.netwo.org and selecting “The Craft and Art of Writing” button.
